Basketball is back and the 76ers will kick off their season at home on October 30th. Back in the day, Philly basketball was played at the Spectrum, but now you can head to the Wells Fargo Center, also known as “The Center” for games. Here’s why we’re excited that the 76ers are back.
Two hours before every 76ers game, the Bud Light Block Party invites fans to hang out in a tailgate atmosphere. Get to the game early and enjoy grilled food like burgers, steaks and hot dogs, delectables from a rotating lineup of the city’s finest food trucks, live music and games right outside The Center. Every now and then, team alumni and mascots join the fun.
This annual week of promotions celebrates the start of the new season. Although events started on October 17, some Blue Week happenings still remain. On October 27th, lucky Sixers fans who order from Papa John’s will receive a surprise visit from the Sixers Phlight Squad and dancers. Then on the 30th, The Center will dole out free T-shirts for the opening night game against the Utah Jazz.
Whether it’s to grab a bite before tipoff or enjoy a drink after the final buzzer, Xfinity Live! is the place to go. This major entertainment complex is replete with multiple pubs and restaurants serving everything from cheese steaks to BBQ to crab legs. A 24-foot-wide video board also screens all the day’s best sporting events.
Chickie’s and Pete’s is known for their delectable crab fries and chicken cheesesteaks. Another fan favorite is the Broad Street Carvery, which offers a braised short rib sandwich and a Cracklin’ Roast Porchetta sandwich. You can also grab local staples like a traditional cheesesteak or hoagie to add to feel truly local.
The 76ers were the NBA’s lovable losers of the 2014-2015 season, but that means that optimism is brimming with this young team. The third overall pick, Duke’s Jahlil Okafor, will become the team’s exciting new centerpiece and acquisitions in the offseason like Nik Stauskas and Carl Landry offer promise for a team that struggled last year. Don’t miss your chance to cheer on this new 76ers crew!
