Every year, Philadelphia comes alive between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve with Christmas Village—a super-fun rendition of an authentic German Christmas market. From amazing vendors to visit for top-notch holiday gifts, to fun events and more, this is what you can expect at this year’s Christmas Village.
The Christkindl Prologue
Every year, a woman is selected as the Nuremberg Christkind, which represents the spirit of Christmas in Germany. She wears a long white dress, gold crown, along with other regal paraphernalia. Every year, Philadelphia welcomes the Christkind to make an appearance for an opening ceremony for the village.
Throughout the month-long run of Philadelphia’s Christmas Village, each weekend features a fun theme filled with events. Last year there was a fun German American Weekend, which featured singing and dancing performances, as well as traditional German foods like Bratwurst, Schnitzel and more. There was also a Make-A-Wish charity weekend, and a closing ceremony weekend with live shows and shopping.
Towards the end of the fall season, Philadelphia’s Christmas Village will announce its new slate of vendors. These shops, restaurants, and artisans annually bring out the city’s diverse collection of goods and eats. If you’re traveling in The City of Brotherly Love this holiday season, it’s the perfect place to find a gift that you could only pick up in Philadelphia.
