One of Philadelphia’s most historic marketplaces and traveler hangouts has been undergoing a major renovation. Here’s what you need to know about it, and what to expect from the new, highly anticipated Bourse Marketplace.
The Old Marketplace
The Bourse has long been a resting and shopping place for Philadelphia travelers to rest, as it’s located across from the Independence Mall and Liberty Bell Center. A nationally recognized historic place in a 105-year-old Victorian building, it houses much of the city’s historical charm. With its new upgrade, the space will modernize while maintaining the original location and spirit.
The New Marketplace
Enjoying a $40 million renovation, this gorgeous underground marketplace will feature a full restoration with new artisanal brands and vendors. Expect artisanal ice cream, New American cuisine, cheese, and craft cocktails among the countless soon-to-be-announced offerings.
The renovation of the Philadelphia Bourse Marketplace building was done so the building could host new artisanal vendors and neighborhood businesses. When it’s all done, and open this summer, the new Bourse Marketplace will feature 38 new vendors, 4 new restaurants, and 50 new offices.
The Ritz Theatre
The historic Ritz Theatre received a $4 million upgrade, bringing modern technology to the near 30-year-old theatre housed in a 123-year-old building. In addition to catching a movie here, you can also enjoy newly finished common areas and retail space surrounding the cinema.
The famous restaurant and retail space located at 325 Chestnut Street received $25 million in renovations including a rework of the entire facade, and a complete retail makeover. When you come to shop at The Bourse, keep in mind this refreshed building was constructed in 1960.
