Musicians and singers from some of Philadelphia’s favorite bands are coming together to honor the work of the late Amy Winehouse. The artists are from an eclectic collection of genres, such as 60s Motown and soul, funk, and R&B theater rock. Some of the singers will be Imani Roch, Ryan Williams, Allison Polans, and Martha Stuckey. As one group, the musicians will perform Winehouse’s acclaimed album Back to Black in its entirety, as well as an entire set of Winehouse’s B-side tracks in a soulful tribute to the singer.
Amy Winehouse was beloved for her jazzy vocals, personal songwriting, and brash charm. The neo-soul singer was often known for her of-the-stage exploits, but fans remember the Brit for her music’s soul and candor. Winehouse won five Grammys for second album, Back to Black. The album was, for a time, the UK’s best-selling album of the 21st century.
