Sidibe, who rose to stardom after she played the leading role in Lee Daniels’s critically-acclaimed film Precious. Her rise was anything but conventional, though, and Sidibe describes life with a polygamous father and a mother who sings in the subway to support her two children.
Topics like friendship, depression, fashion, race, and weight are woven together with fresh wit and remarkable frankness. Sidibe simultaneously shows her strength in reaching for her dreams and her vulnerability in feeling different from everyone else. The result is a funny, smart, and fresh story the resonates with everyone. Sidibe will be at the Free Library
