The magical wonder of Harry Potter comes to Chestnut Hill every October. The Philly neighborhood transforms into a festival of spellbinding events, and the charming streets become the much-loved fictional world created by author J.K. Rowling. An extensive list of events make this event fun for kids and adults alike.
Here’s a list of events that take place during the blockbuster festival.
Wands and Wizards Night on the Avenue – To kickoff the festival, guests can enjoy live performances, extended hours at avenue shops, and food and drink specials at participating bars. A costume contest with cash prizes will also be held. (Oct. 20, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.)
Literary Events – The official Harry Potter Conference at Chestnut Hill College will host presentations that are free and open to the public. (Oct. 20, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.)
The Hogwarts Express and Opening Ceremony – SEPTA’s Chestnut Hill West regional rail line, the honorary Hogwarts Express, departs from Jefferson Station and makes its regular stops to Chestnut Hill West with Harry Potter, Hermione, Ron, and Dumbledore look-alikes to greet guests.
Harry Potter Festival on Germantown Avenue – The main festival event will fill 12 blocks of Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill, from Cresheim Valley Drive to Chestnut Hill Avenue. Free hayrides, Defense Against the Dark Arts classes, Sorting Hat demonstrations, fortune telling, face painters, a scavenger hunt, and Quidditch training will be just some of the fun occurring. (Oct. 21, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.)
Quidditch Tournament – The 8th Annual Philadelphia Brotherly Love Quidditch Cup Tournament is one of the main events. Admission is free to the event at Chestnut Hill College. (Oct. 21, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.)
