Featuring some of the most iconic show tunes and dazzling costumes, The King and I will spin into Philadelphia for a performance at The Academy of Music. This revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s 1951 classical musical creates a magical stage show with compelling characters, extravagant stage decorations, and soaring song.
The King and I follows the romance between an English governess and the King of Siam in the 19th century. As their love blossoms over the backdrop of two cultures at odds with each other, the show provides memorable numbers like “Shall We Dance,” “Getting to Know You,” and “I Whistle a Happy Tune.” An Oscar-winning adaptation of the play featured Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr, solidifying The King and I as a timeless story that is still enjoyed decades later.
