The Caribbean islands come to life in Philly when the 30th Annual Philadelphia Caribbean Festival rolls into town. As part of the PECO’s Multicultural Series during the summer, the festival highlight island culture with a full day of family-friendly events and entertainment.
The celebration showcases 14 different Caribbean islands, and features reggae, roots international beat, hip-hop, and gospel performances, as well as poetry, skits, and dance shows. The iconic sound of the steel band rings through the plaza, and authentic island sounds create a revelrous atmosphere. The smell of spices, meats, and fish sizzling on the grills waft throughout the plaza while visitors enjoy the entertainment. Island cuisine like jerk chicken, curried goat and chicken, codfish cakes, roti, and more are available from vendors, while guests peruse a marketplace with Caribbean fashions, arts, and crafts.
