Philadelphia Open Studio Tours is the largest tour of artist studios and creative working spaces in the region and is a great way to gain a firsthand glimpse into the working lives of artists in the area. The Open Studio tours West of Broad Street take place from October 11-12 and East of Broad Street from October 25-26. More than 300 artists are signed up to participate in this year’s events.
The Open Studio tour consists of a self-guided tour through artists’ studios and work spaces; the event schedule also includes demonstrations and workshops, artists talks, parties and more! Participating artists work in a variety of mediums such as glass film & video, furniture, glass, metal, mixed media, performance art, printmaking, photography, sculpture and more. We’re looking forward to checking out Lauren Boilini’s piece The Fugue at the Metropolitan Gallery 250 (250 South 18th Street Unit 102); this piece was created over the course of the week and includes imagery evocative of a feeding frenzy. Meet the artist herself at the artists’ reception on Thursday October 16 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. October 11th marks the unveiling of Sun Young Kang’s most recent piece ‘In-Between’ which arranges thousands of sheets of rolled paper to create a unique three dimensional experience. This work will be on display from October 11 until November 7 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
The Philadelphia Open Studio Tours take place in a variety of the city’s neighborhoods so it’s the perfect excuse to explore some of our best and unique neighborhoods.
