Fishtown is the place to be on October 11, when the Fishtown River City Festival kicks off at noon in Penn Treaty Park. Hosted by the Fishtown Neighbors Association, The Fishtown River City Festival is a great chance to experience this flourishing neighborhood. Festival highlights include the RiverCity Fun Run, which is a 5K run, a festival beer garden, a family fun area (with a magic show) and TONS of food! This year the festival is expecting over 10,000 people to attend so be prepared for a great and crowded festival.
Avid runners should register early for the Fishtown River City Festival’s 5K Fun Run. Funds raised go to support the Fishtown Neighbors Association.
Tunes of the afternoon will come from the Mainstage which is sponsored by local radio station WXPN 88.5. The stage will feature live music from Matt Pond, The Lawsuites, TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb, ginger Coyle, Pine Barons, Katie Barbato and Levee Drivers.
Looking for a cool beverage refreshment? The beer garden which will feature craft brews from the best local breweries including Neshaminy Creek, 2nd Story Brewing Company, the Saint Benjamin Brewing Company, Philly Homebrew and the Philadelphia Brewing company.
In the Family Fun area you can expect balloon art, the Philadelphia Zoo on Wheels, face painting and a soccer clinic — you couldn’t ask for more family friendly fun on a Saturday (all in 1 place!).
If you haven’t been to Fishtown, use this as an opportunity to explore this blossoming neighborhood, which is an enclave of cool. Its name comes from its roots as the center of the commercial shad fishing industry, but is now home to a host of young creative and there are numerous, boutiques, restaurants and stores. Located north of Old City and Northern Liberties, it’s easy to get to Fishtown, just takes SEPTA’s market Frankford El to Girard Avenue.
