Currently living in Brooklyn, American indie folk musician Sufjan Stevens is a singer-songwriter whose musical talent and ambition impresses both critics and audiences alike. Lucky for us, he is coming to The Academy of Music on April 9th and 10th. It is Surfjan Stevens 1st time back to Philadelphia since he played here 5 years ago.
His music ranges from sacred and biblical albums to an electronic album for the animals of the Chinese Zodic. His most recent album is coming out this month and is entitled Carrie & Lowell. It is his first album in 5 years. The album was actually produced in his Brooklyn home and was inspired by the 2012 death of his mother Carrie. He just debuted a song off the album entitled Should Have Known Better. The song is very reflective in nature and describes the many ways the past can hold us back and really haunt us.
The UK Sunday Times is calling him, “The most interesting musician in America right now” and his show in Philadelphia will not disappoint. The opening act Cold Specks is a Canadian born talent who released her debut album I Predict a Graceful Expulsion in May of 2012. Neuroplasticity was her second released album in August of 2014.
Sufjan Steven’s Philadelphia show will give you the quintessential live musical experience. His ability to reinvent himself with every album makes his shows so fun to experience.
