Care more about the animals than the ale? The zoo has over 42 acres of land and is home to lions, tigers, bears and more and a progressive Zoo360 animal trail system. Zoo360 offers more opportunities for animals to travel within the zoo, greater variety in their environments and an increased ability to determine their own experiences while creating a more dynamic visitor experience. The three exhibits that are part of the Zoo360 experience are the Treetop Trail, Big Cat Crossing and the Great Ape Trail.
Our favorite thing is the Big Cat Crossing, which is a 330 foot mesh overhead (that’s right, OVERHEAD) passageway. Expect to see lions, tigers, pumas, jaguars and more stretching their legs and taking stroll to see the different human exhibits.

Another unique 360 experience is the PECO Primate Reserve. The Great Ape trail is connected to the orangutans’ outdoor yard, and enables them to travel and explore outside of their home crossing high over the visitor path! The Great Ape Trail is an innovative rectangular network of flexible stainless steel mesh, 16 feet off the ground and approximately 200 feet in length.

It’s easy to get to the zoo from The Independent Hotel. We recommend hoping on the Phlash bus which is complimentary when coming to Philly before Labor day, the Phlash bus hits the following locations in Philadelphia including stops near Penn’s Landing,National Museum of Jewish American History, The Barnes Foundation, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Rodin Museum, the Perelman Building, Eastern State Penitentiary, the Franklin Institute, National Constitution Center, Reading Terminal Market, the Shops at Liberty Place, the Please Touch Museum and the Philadelphia Zoo.
