Opera Philadelphia will transpose a medieval story of tragic love onto the backdrop of post-World War I Europe. Amenaide, the daughter of powerful noble Argiriou, is secretly in love with exiled soldier Tancredi. A love letter sets the opera’s events into motion, and Tancredi must defence Amenaide from an unjust death sentence. All the while, Rossini’s lyrical musicscape guides the audience through the moments of triumph, tragedy, and passion.
Stephanie Blythe stars at the title character in Rossini’s Tancredi, with soprano Brenda Rae playing the role of Amenaide and Michele Angelini making his Opera Philadelphia debut as Argiriou. Conductor Corrado Rovaris will lead the performance. The performance is performed in Italian with English supertitles.
